Things To Do

The Cape Peninsula - on the Southwestern tip of the African continent - is unquestionably one of the most beautiful places in the world. Long considered the "Gateway to Africa", Cape Town and its environs offer an almost limitless choice of activities amidst a scenic garden that is without parallel anywhere in the world.

Hike up Table Mountain, sunbathe at one of Cape Town's many beaches, tour the townships, shop at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and enjoy world class wines at Cape Town's historic vineyards. Discover Cape Town's lively nightlife and lots of excellent restaurants.

Table Mountain From Robben Island

Whenever you visit Cape Town you'll see a beautiful flat ‘tabletop’ mountain (1086m high and 3km long), smack in the middle of town; that is Table Mountain. Table Mountain's top is often shrouded in clouds commonly known as the mountain's "tablecloth". The mountain is home to many unique species of plants and animals. The views of Cape Town and its coastline from the top are spectacular. You can even see Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. There are cable cars to get you to the top but if you're fit it's worth attempting the 3 hour climb up one of the many trails. If you are interested in paragliding down you can do that too. There's a restaurant and a souvenir shop at the top of Table Mountain for your convenience.

Set against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain is Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, perhaps the most breathtaking garden-setting in the world. Growing a vast array of indigenous South African plants, it is one of the many highlights of a South African trip. A summer concert picnic at Kirstenbosch is not be missed.

Another is the trip into the winelands of the Western Cape. Here are the vineyards that have recently made their mark in the world market together with the famous Dutch Gabled houses and the many fine restaurants offering sumptuous traditional Cape dishes.

Not to be missed is the Cape of Good Hope, the place where the cold Benguela current on the West coast and the warm Agulhas current on the East coast merge. This place is pure magic. To one side is the Atlantic where the beaches are powder soft and the water is cold; to the other side is the tropical Indian Ocean. And straight ahead is the endless expanse of roaring seas, a place recalled in the legends of countless sailors making their way around the tip of Africa.

Cape Town has many stunning beaches and depending on your interest there are beaches to be seen at, beaches to bring the kids to and beaches to watch whales from.

With a favourable exchange rate Cape Town is a great place for visitors to shop. You can buy arts and crafts from all over Africa, the latest designer wear, diamonds and more. Cape Town has several large shopping malls as well as numerous open markets to enjoy.

Blue Waters will help you tailor a holiday to remember, one that will have you coming back to the ‘Mother City’ and ‘Fairest Cape’ time and time again.
